“Literalmente, no hay ningún país en el mundo que no quiera comprar un respirador artificial de China en este momento“, comentó Li Kai, director de Beijing Aeonmed. “Tenemos decenas de miles de pedidos esperando. El problema es qué tan rápido podemos hacerlos”.

De acuerdo con Wu, Vedeng todavía recibe entre 60 y 70 pedidos nuevos cada día, cada uno solicita cientos o miles de esas máquinas y la mayoría son provenientes de gobiernos.

¿Por qué son tan importantes los respiradores artificiales? Estos aparatos bombean oxígeno a los pulmones y eliminan el dióxido de carbono del cuerpo. Muchos pacientes infligidos por el coronavirus necesitan la máquina porque su nivel de oxígeno en la sangre cae precipitadamente, una condición llamada hipoxemia, que puede causar daño a los órganos y ser potencialmente mortal.
