Las nuevas monedas de Kenia representan su compromiso y respeto por el medio ambiente y la naturaleza.

En la mayoría de los países, las monedas y billetes tienen grabados a los personajes más importantes en la historia del país. El Banco Central de Kenia (CBK, por sus siglas en inglés) ha decidido reemplazar a estas figuras públicas, a veces cuestionables, por animales de la vida silvestre.

De acuerdo con el CBK, el cambio ocurre tras la promulgación de la nueva constitución en el país, que da paso a “la expresión física de una Kenia recién nacida y prospera, que muestra respeto por el medio ambiente y la naturaleza“.

El presidente Uhuru Kenyatta presentó las nuevas monedas que rinden homenaje al tesoro más preciado del país africano; sus animales. Las nuevas monedas tienen imágenes de su famosa fauna como leones, elefantes, jirafas y rinocerontes. Anteriormente, estas monedas mostraban a tres ex presidentes del país que habían decidido ser figuras del dinero durante su mandato.

“La moneda de una nación no es simplemente un instrumento para el intercambio de valor. Los motivos y elementos de este diseño de las monedas representan una forma única de registrar la historia, celebrar la diversidad cultural y el entorno natural de un país“, afirmó el presidente Kenyatta.
