Los humanos esta vez no les harán daño.

El coronavirus ha logrado que los depredadores más peligrosos de estas tortugas marinas (los seres humanos) desaparezcan de la costa. Estos bellos animales por gin pueden poner huevos y tener a sus hijos en paz.

Desde niveles de contaminación reduciéndose drásticamente en todo el muno hasta la reducción del hoyo en la capa de ozono, pasando por la suspensión de corridas de toros y el cierre definitivo de un cruel servicio de paseo de elefantes,  parece que la paralización mundial provocada por el coronavirus está ayudando seriamente a la recuperación de la naturaleza.

Si bien la pandemia ha provocado estragos grandes en todo el planeta, y la pausa obligatoria por la cuarentena en cientos de países era esto lo que nuestro planeta, y la vida silvestre necesitaban para sobreponerse al daño que la raza humana le ha infligido.

En otro caso que confirma que el COVID-19 ha sido lo mejor que le ha pasado a la naturaleza, el sitió de las noticias The Hindu reportó que luego de 7 años, las tortugas marinas de la especie Olive Ridley han llegado a tierra para anidar en masa en la playa india de Rushikulya gracias a que no hay presencia de seres humanos, están encerrados por la cuarentena.

El 22 de marzo, alrededor de las 2 de la madrugada, 2,000 tortugas hembras comenzaron a salir del mar hacia la playa, dijo Amlan Nayak, Oficial Forestal Divisional de Berhampur (DFO), a The Hindu.

Según los informes, las tortugas hembras regresan a la misma playa desde donde nacieron para desovar. Además de que la costa de Odisha es el sitio de anidación masiva más grande para ellos. Según la Organización de Vida Silvestre Odisha (OWO), casi el 50 por ciento de la población mundial de estas tortugas raras viene de la costa de Odisha para anidar.

Según el Departamento Forestal de India, casi 3 millones de tortugas madres han formado parte de la actividad de anidación que había sido interrumpida pro cazadores, turistas y contaminación provocada por el ser humano.

‘’Cada año alternativo es un año malo o un año bueno. Sin embargo, en los últimos dos años hemos visto un aumento fenomenal en el número de anidación y este ha sido por lejos el mejor’’.

La visita de turistas se prohibió en Rushikulya debido al cierre en todo el país desde el 24 de marzo. Sin embargo, los investigadores y ambientalistas han podido visitar los sitios de anidación.
