Las autoridades del zoológico de Miami han confirmado que dos crías de pantera nebulosa nacieron y están en perfecta salud. Los cachorros, un macho y una hembra, nacieron el 11 de febrero, pero el MetroZoo de Miami, acaba de anuncar su nacimiento esta semana después de haberlos dejado junto a su madre desde su nacimiento.

Luego de sus exámenes y vacunación, los encargados del zoológico confirmaron que la salud de los cachorros es muy buena. Sin embargo, el personal del zoológico comentó que están tomando medidas especiales para proteger a los dos bebés tras la reciente revelación de que un tigre había contraído coronavirus COVID-19 en el zoológico de Nueva York.

La madre de los dos bebés, Serai, nació en mayo de 2011. Por su parte, el padre, Rajasi, nació en marzo del mismo año. De acuerdo con los cuidadores, esta es la segunda camada exitosa para ambos padres.

Las panteras nebulosas se consideran una especie vulnerable debido a la caza excesiva y la pérdida de su hábitat natural debido a la deforestación causada por los humanos. Son excelentes trepadoras y su dieta naturalmente incluye una variedad de aves y mamíferos, incluidos monos, ciervos y puercoespines.

Debido a sus hábitos nocturnos y su preferencia por la selva más impenetrable, el número de panteras nebulosas en la naturaleza se ignora. Es por eso que los zoológicos y centros de conservación son importantes para estas especies en riesgo.

El nacimiento de estos bebés aumenta la esperanza para poder seguir conservando a esta extraordinaria especie.
