Carpintero sin hijos paga la universidad a 33 extraños con los ahorros de su vida

Este hombre ahorró toda su vida y pudo donar más de 3 millones de dólares para que jóvenes tuvieran una carrera.

Dale Schroeder es un hombre de Iowa, EE. UU., que trabajó como carpintero durante 67 años. Siempre tuvo una vida austera, pues personas cercanas a él mencionan que solo tenía dos pantalones y se transportaba en un camión Chevrolet oxidado.

Gracias a su vida sin lujos, Dale fue capaz de ahorrar más de tres millones de dólares con los cuales estableció un fondo para estudiantes en su localidad que no podían pagar la matrícula de la universidad.

El fondo comenzó después de su fallecimiento en 2005, y ahora, 14 años después, esos fondos se han agotado permitiendo a 33 jóvenes acudir a la universidad.

Schroeder creció como una persona de escasos recursos y nunca pudo asistir a la universidad. Nunca se casó y no tuvo hijos, poco antes de fallecer en 2005, se acercó a su amigo y abogado, Steve Nielsen, para hablar sobre qué hacer con sus ahorros.

“Quería ayudar a los niños que eran como él, que probablemente no tendrían la oportunidad de ir a la universidad sino por su regalo”, dijo Nielsen a la estación de radio KCCI. “Dije: ‘¿De cuánto estamos hablando, Dale?’ Y él dijo: ‘Oh, poco más de $ 3 millones’. Casi me caigo de la silla”.

La mayor parte de ese dinero se destinó al fondo de becas que creó Schroeder, el cual ayudó a futuros maestros, doctores y demás profesionales a cumplir sus sueños de continuar su educación superior.

Los 33 jóvenes que se beneficiaron de esta beca, se refieren a sí mismo como “Niños de Dale“, recuerdan que lo único que se les pidió es que recordaran a Dale y trataran de imitar su ejemplo siendo profesionistas.

Kira Conrad es una de estas personas beneficiadas y recuerda el día en que Nielsen le informó que su colegiatura estaba pagada.

“Crecí en un hogar monoparental y tenía tres hermanas mayores, por lo que pagarnos a las cuatro la universidad nunca fue una opción. Cuando Steve Nielsen me habló por teléfono diciendo que mi colegiatura estaba pagada, me rompí a llorar de inmediato. Para un hombre que nunca me conocería, para que me lleve básicamente a la universidad, eso es increíble. Eso no sucede”
