Este país reconoce la gran labor de estos insectos y quiere hacer todo lo posible por salvarlas.

Las abejas han sido declarados los seres vivos más importantes del planeta y algunos estudios indican que pueden ser adictas a ciertos pesticidas. Francia es el primer país en hacer una verdadera actitud a la preservación de las especies mediante la prohibición de todos los cinco plaguicidas vinculados a la muerte de estos animales, cuya extinción puede acabar con la humanidad.

Todo comenzó cuando la Unión Europea votó por la prohibición de los tres principales responsables de la extinción de estos insectos, se señalaron los agrotóxicos conocidos como clotianidina, imidacloprida y tiametoxam. Al ajustarse a la medida, el gobierno francés decidió prohibir otros dos pesticidas que han contribuido a la disminución en la población de abejas, el tiaclopride y la acetamiprida.

Los venenos en cuestión son de la familia de los neonicotinoides y poseen una estructura similar a la de la nicotina. Estos funcionan atacando el sistema nervioso central de los insectos – entre ellos, las abejas. Los estudios citados por el diario británico The Telegraph indicaron que los neonicotinoides pueden confundir las habilidades de memoria y la orientación de las abejas, así como reducir su conteo de esperma.
